The Problem
During the pandemic lockdown, I wanted to do something for the street animals and shelters working towards covid relief. But I wanted the initiative to be something thoughtful and meaningful instead of feeling like another charity or donation drive.
An Idea
Custom postcards with hand-drawn illustrations that people could send to their loved ones. This worked even better as digital gifts for special occasions like birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
Did it work?
I raised over ₹25,000+ and countless wishes for the initiative. As intended the entire amount was donated to organizations providing medical resources for Covid relief.
Goal
Do a design sprint to re-imagine the user experience as a web app and test
how far my skills have evolved since. The challenge was to also learn a new tool through this sprint and complete the case study within a week.
The Process
I needed to get a lot done within the week, so I prioritised the sprint by completing the design first and then learning Jittr to create the animated product preview video from scratch.
Learnt Jittr
Few tutorial videos, lots of trial and error and caffeine helped in completing the preview. This turned out to be one of the most challenging part of the sprint but also a rewarding one because I got to learn something new!
Design and Flow
I wanted the design to be easy, quick at the same time feel personal within a week. A lot of wireframe, sketches and iterations later, I decided on making it a one-screen process, instead of a flow to make it feel more realistic and less mechanical.
Challenges
Back in 2020, I didn't have the skills, knowledge or the tools to be able to create a web app and was handling the entire process manually through emails.
Now while I have skills and tools, I thought challenging myself with a deadline, trying new tools like Jittr felt exciting.
Takeaways
Designing this experience was extremely close to my heart. I could see the growth I have made and how I can now not only design but visualise and build interesting experiences that bring people together.

One of my major motivations always has been to design impactful technologies and projects like these remind me why I love what I do

While working on the design, I also learnt to create the experience video on Jittr. Good design is not just about experience but also how you're communicating to the users. I think learning such a tool is important to show your idea's potential and how it works in the best way possible

This is still a work in progress, while the design is done I'm learning to vibe code and create the full web app as well.
